OpenMed™ Manager is the core
technology powering Telemedicine networks worldwide.
Building on a dynamic, database management system, OpenMed™
Manager consolidates, verifies, and stores images, patient,
and examination/study information into multimedia Electronic
Telemedicine Records (ETR). These ETR's are stored and
forwarded to remote sites for review, diagnosis, consultation,
or treatment planning through sophisticated OpenMed™
Manager communication modules.
OpenMed™
Manager is a modular, rules-based, intelligent, server
platform for efficient and reliable delivery of high
quality Telemedicine services. OpenMed™ Manager's
web-based system administration provides the ability
for system managers to define the rules for flow and
access across their network. In Wide Area Networks,
OpenMed™ Manager ensures the integrity and reliability
of communications through advanced error detection and
correction and transmission control techniques. All
OpenMed™ Manager transactions are tracked, allowing
detailed activity reporting.
OpenMed™
Manager can interface to third party hospital systems
allowing for comprehensive clinical information management
solutions in a healthcare enterprise. Support for the
international DICOM standard allows OpenMed™ Manager
to exchange images directly with PACS and modalities
such as CT, MRI, Nuclear Medicine, and CR. Integrated
HL-7 interfaces provide for communications with other
hospital administrative and clinical systems for the
exchange of patient information, diagnostic reports,
and other data.
A standard
feature of OpenMed™ Manager is multi-layer security,
which maintains an application layer directory of registered
users and restricts ETR access to authorized users. At
the network layer, OpenMed™ Manager optionally integrates
encryption technology on all traffic transmitted between
sites. OpenMed™ Manager features automatic or on-demand
system backup which are managed and monitored through
the browser-based administrative interface. |

The OpenMed™ Capture application is a member of
the OpenMed™ Capture family of products. This
application enables physicians to request remote primary
and secondary diagnosis of medical images, and information
in multiple specialties using a single, common workstation.
The captured images and information form an integral
part of the patient's multimedia Electronic Telemedicine
Record (ETR).
OpenMed™
Capture includes support for a number of multimedia
capture devices. Using a high-performance film digitizer
(Laser or CCD), OpenMed™ Capture converts radiology
plain film images from multiple modalities, such as
X-rays, computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance
imaging (MRI), and ultrasound images, to digital format
for transmission. Standard document scanners may be
attached to provide for digitization of patient histories,
medical reports, imaging requests, notes, lab results,
EKG's and charts which are transmitted along with the
images. In addition to radiology and document images,
OpenMed™ Capture supports sound capture of 'Voice
Notes' which may be used to attach requests, instructions,
and queries to the ETR quickly and simply. A digital
camera can be used to capture JPEG images which are
then attached to the ETR while the audio capture mechanism
allows transfer of audio from digital stethoscopes.
The
standard, intuitive graphical user interface, makes
capturing images, patient demographics, and study information
quick and easy. To save time, the application allows
for misoriented images to be flipped or rotated in one
easy step, and it allows image spot magnification for
quality control. It also features user-selectable priority
and user-selectable compression ratio. OpenMed™
Capture allows the grouping of multiple images or document
components into a single study representing them as
thumbnails to ensure that all of the appropriate components
are included in the study. Once cases are reported,
a Case Management interface allows quick and simple
display of the report at the workstation - providing
an integrated solution.

Taking advantage of World Wide Web
technologies, OpenMed™ Viewer provides browser-based
access to multimedia Electronic Telemedicine Records
(ETR). OpenMed™ Viewer's ETRs present information
gathered from a wide range of sources and can contain
multi-modality study information, such as radiology,
pathology, ultrasound, dermatology, and ophthalmology
as well as written reports, scanned documents, voice
memos, and video clips.
OpenMed™
Viewer uses standard web browsers, allowing enterprise
deployment in the healthcare environment across existing
suitable desktop hardware or from laptops via remote
dial-up connection. Using OpenMed™ Viewer consulting
and referring physicians can review cases, view results,
and generate reports online. A sophisticated search
system ensures that name, Medical Record Number, specialty,
examination date and many other criteria can be used
to locate simply and rapidly a patient's medical record,
imaging studies, and diagnostic reports.
OpenMe™
Viewer is extended by the optional Image Manipulation
Applet (IMA). IMA is a JAVA applet, which adds image
enhancement and manipulation. It provides features commonly
found only on dedicated imaging workstations such as
window width and level control, zoom, pan and rotate
functions, as well as a 'magnifying glass' zoom feature
for a region of special interest. For color images,
the IMA supports color balance adjustment as well as
brightness and contrast control. With WorldCare Technologies
IMA, OpenMed™ Viewer becomes an extension to PACS
providing access to radiology images by physicians throughout
the hospital.
OpenMed™
Viewer connects to an OpenMed™ Manager server
that controls the flow of and access to information
on the network. To ensure security and confidentiality,
various user access and study restrictions can be enabled.
WorldCare Technologies' software maintains a directory
of authorized users, and uses encryption software at
the network layer.

OpenMed™ Radiology is
WorldCare's radiology diagnostic workstation software.
It is designed for soft-copy, primary diagnosis
of plain film and computed radiography (CR), direct
capture (DR), computed tomography (CT), magnetic
resonance imaging (MRI), and ultrasound (US).
OpenMed™ Radiology is available with support
for up to four 2k x 2.5k monitors. Also available
in a high-resolution, 1.2k x 1.6k version supporting
multiple monitors and a 1k physician's review
version.
OpenMed™
Radiology utilizes standard Windows NT workstations
and features easy-to-use controls that provide
a wide array of image review and manipulation
tools. It also supports a variety of flexible
search criteria coupled with an easy to use 'Study
Selector' for accessing studies and comparison
films. When combined with WorldCare's OpenMed™
Viewer reporting system, or interfaced with another
hospital information system, it enables completely
paperless reporting.
OpenMed™
Radiology is DICOM-compliant, enabling the user
to examine studies or images on remote workstations
or DICOM devices. DICOM communication is performed
in the background without interrupting the workflow.
It is supported by a visual display of the progress
of the transfer.
Supporting
user based preferences, the OpenMed™ Radiology
software can configure itself to match the requirements
of individual radiologists or physicians based
on their stored preferences ensuring optimal use
of clinical time through appropriate selection
of screen layout and preferred image tools.
OpenMed™
Radiology Workstations are seamlessly integrated
with Telemedicine networks through OpenMed™
Manager software modules.
OpenMed™
Radiology can be configured to exceed all recommendations
of the American College of Radiology regarding
display subsystems. |
